Reader question on God’s will

Question from Waheed:

How do I know God’s will or desire for me?‎ How do I inquire into it?

My answer:

Well, your question is quite a bit more complex that you might guess and therefore difficult to answer. I know that some religions teach that God has a plan for you all laid out in His mind. But everything I’ve learned and experienced tells me that God wants you to be an active participant, in fact a co-creator, in choosing what you desire and what you would like to create in your life. That’s the real meaning of “free will”.

Now some people feel directed to a particular purpose or calling in their life, and I do believe that is guidance or a “direction” that does come from God. But usually it is somewhat broad and can be followed in many different ways.

So let me give you the best advice I can in this circumstance (communicating by email, and not yet giving you direct one-on-one training)…

Mentally or spiritually go within, and more specifically direct your awareness to your heart. Expand your heart and allow it to open. You will feel warmth in and around your heart, and as you get more “in touch” with your heart, it will feel good and expansive (definitely not constrictive in any way). Your heart is directly connected to your soul and to God.

You can direct questions or requests to your higher self or to God, such as… What is my purpose? Please give me guidance. Should I marry so and so person? And then wait quietly and expectantly. It is important that you have a quiet mind. If you ask a yes/no type of question, you will probably quickly feel a good feeling (yes) or a bad feeling (no). Answers don’t always come immediately, and they come into your awareness or knowing, not as thoughts in the mind. And they may come in the form of images that require interpretation.

Sometimes you may be confused, and it may require asking over a period of time, before you suddenly have a “click” or insight that becomes understanding. That recently happened for me… The message to me was “partner with the Divine”, and I was confused because I was thinking of that as a possible name for my new training program. Then later, I suddenly had a flash of insight that I should trust in God that all will go well and I should move full speed ahead. The message was actually telling me much more than that about my future direction, but I understood it in immediate guidance as well.

Listening to your heart is very closely related to intuition. And it can take some time to learn how to do it. The biggest problem is that the mind gets in the way. And it takes time and practice to distinguish between thoughts in the mind versus awareness/knowing in your heart or from your higher self.

Additionally, an insight came to me this morning that expands on this answer… Even more powerful than having a quiet mind, for communicating with God AND seeking to manifest something new, is to BE AT PEACE. Meditate regularly and choose peace and well-being. Release all thoughts and emotions that conflict with peace and love – such as fear, doubt, confusion, desperation, self-hate, bewilderment, and depression – to God.

Choose to BE filled with and surrounded by peace and love. The more you are at peace, the less mental and emotional blockage there will be between your consciousness and Universal Consciousness, between you and God. Therefore, the more you are at peace, the more you can know your purpose and attract abundance (and all good things) to you.

Love,

Ray
