Commentary about Awareness and Awakening at End of 5-2-2022 Episode of Our Spiritual Life
Now Ora has dropped off but I would like to add some comments to help our learning process. Ora said “awareness of nature helps us connect to our nature”. Our nature is that we are individualized expressions of Life (God) within a whole world (and a whole universe) that is alive as one whole. Ignoring our oneness and wholeness is very costly because we humans have been behaving as selfish individuals rather than as a web of wholeness and interdependent life.
Now I feel that it is important to take all of us back to what I learned from my deep spiritual exploration long ago (and that of many, many other spiritual teachers) – that there is One Universal Consciousness, that we are individualized expressions of that One Consciousness, and that we therefore, are spiritual beings participating in a great wholeness of life. Our apparent separateness is a great illusion. We are never separate from the Wholeness/One Consciousness/God, and all of our spiritual seeking is our own souls trying to guide us back to that truth.
Ora Nadrich teaches about mindfulness, which she reminded us in this episode is all about becoming more aware, and awareness is always in the present moment.
We must not just awaken (become continuously aware) as individuals, we must awaken to the One Wholeness (or One Universal Consciousness). That is, we must become fully aware of: (1) our oneness, (2) the fact that we have been living very unconsciously, and (3) the urgent need to start living our oneness/wholeness much more consciously and intelligently.
Awakening (or expanded awareness) involves: 1) changing from fear-based thoughts to love-based thoughts, 2) changing from thinking-dominated consciousness to present moment awareness most of the time, and 3) bringing forth the presence (knowing and feeling) of our souls which are infinite in nature and coupled to infinite wisdom and intelligence.
Phillip Mountrose, in the previous episode, taught us that we can awaken by connecting to and becoming more aware of, our individual souls. Now one thing I’d like to point out is that our individual souls are part of the Self/Wholeness/One Consciousness/God. We must come to know that wholeness, and we can also think of it as the union of all souls.
At the surface level, we can begin to experience and know and participate in the web of life – i.e., Life itself or nature as a whole. But at a much deeper level we can begin to experience and know and participate in our collective wholeness, or beingness, our One Consciousness, our mutual expression of God or Godness. And – very importantly at this time because our world is in great danger of devolution and destruction – we must begin to engage in our mutual evolution as a species and as spiritual beings who are fully interdependent and interconnected.
