Conscious choice-making

NOTE – I just made a major update to this article to include some more common examples for when you would use this technique.

Conscious choice-making is something very worth paying attention to. It is about holding conscious intention to experience the things you want in your life.

You can choose to be happy right now. You can choose to feel confident and think positive thoughts right now. You can choose to feel good (or even great) right now. You can choose to attract an abundance of all good things, including money, starting right now.

It’s not hard, you just have to be conscious of your thoughts and emotions, and then respond with conscious choices. A choice is a strong intention for what you want to experience, and it’s best made with feeling.

Deepak Chopra said this on conscious choice-making and how to do it…

“If you step back for a moment and witness the choices you are making as you make those choices, then in just this act of witnessing, you take the whole process from the unconscious realm into the conscious realm. This procedure of conscious choice-making and witnessing is very empowering.

When you make any choice – any choice at all  – you can ask yourself two things: First of all, ‘What are the consequences of this choice that I’m making?’ In your heart, you will immediately know what these are. Secondly, ‘Will this choice that I’m making now bring happiness to me and to those around me?’ If the answer is yes, then go ahead with that choice. If the answer is no, if that choice brings distress either to you or to those around you, then don’t make that choice. It’s as simple as that.”

When goals or choices come up for you which you wish to make a conscious, fully-aware decision and intention, conscious choice-making is a powerful tool and the technique to use.

For example, if you notice that you don’t feel totally healthy and energized in a particular moment, you can quickly decide that you want to feel better and more powerful, and choose in that moment to feel better and full of energy. You would stop and visualize what “feeling better” looks and feels like. You must fully intend and imagine yourself feeling perfect health, feeling good. You do that by recalling what “feeling good” feels like, and you allow your inner infinite intelligence to take over and begin healing you. It may take some time, but in most typical cases, you will genuinely feel better within a few minutes.

As you recognize that you are beginning to feel good again, you can then shift your attention to becoming re-energized. You fully intend and imagine yourself feeling energy coming from inner space into all of your cells simultaneously. You allow the energy to flow into you and around your body. It expands and recharges you… Within 2 minutes, you feel the energy difference in all parts of your body and you feel your mind clearing. You feel your energy and capability for doing whatever needs doing reach a fully-empowered state.

You have made the choice to be healthy, energized, and ready to continue with your activities of the day.

A different example situation is when you might recognize that you feel unhappy and down. You think about it, and you realize that you have been thinking yourself into being unhappy because you have been focusing on negatives, things that you want to be different but which you can do nothing about right now.

Happiness is something that you should choose often, AND you should choose to be happy right now and unconditionally. It is a choice.

So, you would stop and visualize what being happy looks and feels like for you. You know that being happy is a much more powerful way of being than being unhappy. You focus on being happy right now regardless of circumstances. You feel gratitude for what is right and good in your life, and you nod in agreement that there is goodness, and you let that feeling of grow in you. Now you feel happiness expanding within you. You feel a smile forming on your face, and you enjoy the feeling.

I also find it very helpful to contemplate the choice or intention beforehand, especially when relating to something big. It gives me greater understanding and greater feeling for what it means to me, and also a better ability to visualize what the outcome looks and feels like.

But you follow the same general process… You take some time to realize what it will mean for your intention to become real. You visualize what you will look like, what you will do to acknowledge the outcome or celebrate it, and especially what it will feel like inside of you. Then you hold the intention and trust that the Universe will make it happen.

Also note that choices and intentions should always be positive, present tense, and with strong emotion (feeling) because it is what you desire. You can also choose intentions that are for other people or for larger collectives of people – likewise expressed positively, in the present, and with strong feeling because it is what the greater whole desires.
