The power of intention

Today, I awoke with thoughts about needing to “return to my spiritual power, return to the power of intention”.

Now in contemplating these thoughts, two ideas came immediately to mind… The first is that the spiritual techniques that I want to teach are spiritual power techniques because they help one connect to the Source of all spiritual power.  The second was that I needed to revisit the book The Power of Intention by Wayne Dyer which had a very power influence on me about ten years ago.

Over the weekend, I spoke to a friend who mentioned that everyone must find their own spiritual path. And then I realized that the name of my program, Spiritual Path to Success, might generate some resistance in that it could imply that I think my program is the one spiritual path to success. Now that has never been my intention because I know that everyone must find their own spiritual path. Instead, my purpose is to teach techniques that can help anyone on their own spiritual path.

So now I’m thinking seriously about changing the name of my program to Spiritual Power Techniques.

This morning, I took some time to scan through The Power of Intention and reread passages that I had marked as important. It is a very remarkable book that everyone should read.

One of Dyer’s messages in the book is that intention exists in the universe as an invisible field of energy that supports attainment of the intention. That corresponds closely to the way I describe the process of co-creation: “universal consciousness responds to your intentions and attempts to bring them into your experience”.

He expanded on that core idea by saying everything in the universe has intention (intent, purpose, way of being) built into it. It is, in part, because of this that I emphasize the importance of knowing your purpose. And, in thinking about this more, I would add that spiritual power comes from connecting to one’s higher self (i.e., spirit or soul), and this can be done by reconnecting to one’s intention for coming here in this life.

Another message from his book is that you should live from the Source which is the all-powerful, all-creating field of intention. When you live that way, you become totally aligned with the universe and much more powerful and abundant. And, he gives very helpful suggestions on how to live from the Source.

Additionally, Dyer says that, in living from the Source, you should: (1) think of yourself as connected to everyone and everything (which is totally compatible with my idea of aligning with wholeness), and (2): in the process of co-creation, think from the end – that which you desire – rather than how to bring the end result into being. Co-creation is another word for manifesting and, of course, intention is stating or imagining or visualizing the end result you desire to create.

Intention is very powerful. And here I will pass on to you two quotations that Dyer included in the book. The first is from Carlos Castaneda…

Intent is a force that exists in the universe. When sorcerers (those who live of the Source) beckon intent, it comes to them and sets up the path for attainment, which means that sorcerers always accomplish what they set out to do.

The second quotation is from Aldous Huxley…

The spiritual journey does not consist in arriving at a new destination where a person gains what he did not have, or becomes what he is not. It consists in the dissipation of one’s own ignorance concerning one’s self and life, and the gradual growth of that understanding which begins in the spiritual awakening. That finding of God is a coming to one’s self.
